How Commutator changes AC into DC?

The brushes are fixed in the rocker and poles are also mounted stationary so whenever the conductor comes in contact with the brushes, it has definite magnitude and direction of emf and all the conductors at this particular position will have only this emf which will be the same direction or magnitude for external circuit. Thus originally produced AC in the conductor is changed to DC for the external circuit.
